Editorial Standards

How OriginNews reports, sources, corrects, and holds itself accountable.

Source-Citation Requirement

Every factual claim in every OriginNews article must be attributed to a named source: a primary document, a named official, a published report, or firsthand observation. Anonymous sources are permitted only when the information is of clear public interest and the source faces genuine risk. Such sources must be approved by an editor.

Corrections Policy

OriginNews corrects errors promptly and transparently. When a correction is made:

  • A note is appended to the article describing what was corrected and when.
  • The original text is preserved (struck through or noted) so readers can see what changed.
  • Significant corrections are timestamped with the editor's initials.

To report an error, email corrections@originnewsnetwork.com.

Byline Policy

Every article carries a named byline with a link to the author's profile page. House bylines (“OriginNews Editorial Team”) are used only for minor updates, staff announcements, or aggregated summaries with no original reporting.

Fact-Checking

All articles are reviewed before publication. Reporters are required to verify direct quotes, numerical data, and dates against primary sources. Statistical claims are traced to the original study or dataset.

Ethics Policy

OriginNews reporters may not accept gifts, payment, or favorable treatment from sources or subjects. Financial holdings in companies we cover must be disclosed to an editor. No reporter may cover a topic in which they have a material financial interest.

Diversity Commitment

OriginNews seeks out diverse sources and perspectives in its reporting. We are committed to equitable coverage across race, gender, geography, and ideology.

Unnamed Sources Policy

Anonymous sourcing requires editor approval. The reporter must disclose the source's identity to the editor. The source must have direct knowledge of the information. We will not grant anonymity to sources who are repeating rumor or secondhand claims.
